Autek CIC is a company led by disabled individuals, aiming to create accessible media content for general audiences, with a core focus on disability representation. I worked there between 2021 and 2024, contributing to a number of well-regarded projects. The content below showcases my skills in filmmaking, animation, interview production, photography and even virtual tour construction.
CELL WARS (2021)
An animated short film designed to educate younger and disabled audiences about cancer and featuring a unique visual style inspired by the Star Wars franchise. Cancer cells are portrayed as stylised spaceships, hand-drawn on paper and digitally enhanced in Photoshop. I used keyframing techniques in Final Cut Pro, incorporating dynamic visual effects like lasers, fire, and explosions through both After Effects and Final Cut Pro's built-in tools.
a seizure in the gym (2023)
A short film, featured in Autek's documentary What's My Anxiety, that explores the personal impact of epilepsy on my mental health. It poignantly recounts a seizure I experienced in a gym in 2021 and highlights the compassion and support I received from those who witnessed it. This deeply personal film was made to raise epilepsy awareness to a larger audience.
GOSPORT LEISURE CENTRE - INSET VIDEO (2023)
An informational short showcasing the facilities, services, and classes available at Gosport Leisure Centre, designed to highlight the centre's offerings to potential members and the local community.
TOTTON LEISURE CENTRE - INSET VIDEO (2024)
A promotional video highlighting the various facilities and activities at Totton Leisure Centre, aimed at informing the local community about the services and programs available to members.
WHAT'S MY ANXIETY? (2023)
A feature-length documentary exploring anxiety through interviews with eight individuals, including my Seizure in the Gym video. I also edited other segments, contributing to a powerful exploration of mental health and its impact on society.
Disability Boxing with Winchester Go LD (2024)
A short film promoting Winchester Go LD’s community boxing club, showcasing its positive impact on disabled boxers and highlighting its facilities and sessions. I edited raw footage into a concise, engaging video, adding dynamic titles to effectively convey the club’s message.
Winchester ParkRun (2024)
A vibrant promotional video highlighting the inclusive spirit of the weekly ParkRun event, featuring interviews with staff and participants. Set in the scenic River Park, it showcases the event’s overall structure and inclusive nature. As well as writing, filming and editing, I handled location scouting, identifying ideal shots and working with ParkRun staff to shape the video.
In The Gym (2024)
An informative short documentary, co-directed with Shannon R. Hammond, which offers a friendly look into gym culture as part of Energise Me's Hampshire Active Health program. Featuring gym instructor Sam Johnson, it focuses on physical wellbeing and gym inclusivity. The film was selected for screening at Southampton Film Week’s Short Story Cinema 2 in November 2024.
WHAT'S IT LIKE?
This web page, part of Autek’s “What’s It Like?” project, features a collection of 360° virtual tours and POV videos designed to help disabled individuals and those with severe anxiety familiarise themselves with locations, such as hospitals, leisure centres, and public venues, before visiting. I contributed to several of these resources as part of a wider collaborative effort to improve accessibility and ease of mind for those who need it most.
Autism Hampshire: Good Support Matters (2021)
Created as part of an Autism Hampshire awareness project, this video contrasts effective and ineffective support worker behaviour to highlight the importance of understanding, respect, and proper communication when supporting autistic individuals.
